Our Student of the Month is Lauren Bendig!

If you have ever been to a Dietz Bros. open mic night, chances are you have experienced the effect that Lauren Bendig has on a crowded room. Throughout the years Lauren has sung the lead vocals in bands, performed original pieces, and covered songs in a way that makes the original seem like a farce. Her guitar playing is always rhythmically nuanced and bold while her voice is filled with soul and power. All in all, she is just crazy good!

Lauren has been taking guitar lessons with me for the past six years. We all knew Lauren was a dedicated guitar player when she was thirteen and learned how to play bar chords when her left arm was in a splint. She came in each week and powered through it until she could play each chord flawlessly. Her voice has always been beautiful, especially after being in multiple choirs at Mira Costa and putting in countless hours of practice. She is an incredibly hard working student who in endlessly positive and charming.

Summer of Rock dates are here!

We put the students in groups depending on their age and skill level and teach them how to play their favorite songs (and some classics) as a band! On Friday each group performs here at the store for their family and friends.

Starters Guide To A Guitar Pedal Board Layout:

Looking to expand your sound? The answer could be simple as adding a additional tone, pitch or sound through an effect pedal sometimes referred to as a "Stomp Box". There are a lot of guitar pedals out on the market (which in itself can be overwhelming), but don't fret, we'll help you simplify the process by giving you a few examples of what we recommend here at Dietz!

1. Boss Chromatic Tuner Pedal:

You need this pedal. Period. Whether you play acoustic guitar, electric guitar or bass, you need to be in tune. This pedal also helps supply power to your supporting effect pedals through what's known as a Daisy Chain. Forget the old 9 Volt batteries!

2. Boss Digital Delay Pedal:

A Delay pedal creates a copy of an incoming sound and slightly time-delays it, creating either a "slap" (single repetition) or an echo (multiple repetitions) effect. This pedal is very cool and easy to use but even easier to get lost in by creating some unreal sounds!

3. Boss DN-2 Dyna Drive Overdrive Pedal:

The BOSS DN-2 is an exciting new type of overdrive pedal that reacts to the intensity of your performance. An overdrive pedal is meant to replicate the sound of a tube amp being driven to its limits, which provides a beautiful crunch and sometimes a much needed gain for solos!

4. Boss DS1 Distortion Pedal:

Referred to as the #1 stomp box with three knobs. Makes practically every rock sound you've ever heard. If you dig it loud and distorted, you've simply got to have a DS-1 (made famous by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana).

After 22 years, we decided it was time to get some new carpet! We had a tremendous amount of help from Conor Griffin who dedicated a big portion of his weekend helping us move everything out and then putting it back together. The carpet was done by LaBontes Floor & Window Coverings (310-308-2806) and they were great!
